Taekwondo kicks guide: build chamber, rotation and return

Taekwondo kicks guide: build chamber, rotation and return. Keep the full movement visible and compare one repeatable checkpoint.

dollyo chagi becomes easier to review when you separate the setup, transition and finish. Keep the full movement visible and compare one repeatable checkpoint. Use video to compare one checkpoint, not to imitate a highlight at full speed.

Build the movement in repeatable phases

Review the clip in three passes: chamber and supporting foot, hip rotation and extension, recoil, landing and guard. On the first pass, watch at normal speed. On the second, pause at the transition. On the third, compare the same checkpoint with a later attempt.

Set the camera before the session

Use a stable phone or compact tripod. a full-body side or front-oblique view with the standing foot visible Keep the athlete, partner or implement inside the frame from the start through the finish. Do not move the camera between clips you plan to compare.

Common errors the camera can reveal

Look for a low or open chamber, turning the standing foot too late, dropping the guard during recoil. The camera can show timing and position, but it cannot tell you how a grip, joint or implement feels. Let your coach set safe resistance and progression.

A simple practice block

  1. Practise the setup without fatigue.
  2. Repeat controlled repetitions with one cue.
  3. Compare the final attempt from the same angle.

After the block, write down one visible difference and one question for your coach. Keep the next comparison at the same speed, load or resistance.

Keep the review in scope

Automated feedback cannot diagnose pain, replace a qualified coach, or decide an official result. World Taekwondo and ITF rules, terminology and scoring differ; use the rules for your school or event. Stop when pain changes how you move and seek qualified help.
